The Course

Our Golf Course - Unique and steeped in history

18 holes set amongst the beautiful Berkshire countryside

Originally within the grounds of Windsor Great Park, the Bearwood Estate has formed part of the hunting grounds for the Kings of England since the 11th century. Whilst the wild bears and boars have long gone, it still forms the natural habitat for magnificent deer and wildlife roaming the grounds. Although the course only opened in 1996, the forest terrain and woodland has evolved over centuries. Creating one of the most inspiring golfing environments to be found anywhere in the world.

Set amidst 200 acres of beautiful Berkshire countryside, the course at Bearwood Lakes is maintained with exceptional craftsmanship and unparalleled attention to detail, providing world class playing surfaces. With gently undulating putting surfaces constructed to full USGA specification, the course weaves its way through three natural lakes totalling 50 acres. The fairways are fully irrigated and a variety of tee positions provide a stimulating challenge for golfers of all abilities.

Rose Ladies Series At Bearwood Lakes 2020

Bearwood Lakes hosts a thrilling Rose Ladies Series

Georgia Hall, having come 2nd in all her other three Rose Series starts, went one better at Bearwood Lakes by taking top spot.

It was tight at the top with Hall finishing on -1, with six other ladies on level par making the 18th green a nail bitter of a finish on the Wokingham course.

Meg MacLaren, Emily Slater, Inci Mehmet and Cara Gainer all finished in tied 2nd along with the only two amateurs in the field of 45; Lily-May Humphries and Mimi Rhodes.

It was a great showing by teenagers, Humphries and Rhodes, and bodes well for the future of English ladies golf with both finishing tied 4th and tied 7th respectfully in their previous Rose Series events.

Hall gave full praise to the Berkshire venue, Bearwood Lakes.  Being one of the most exclusive clubs in England expectation was always high and the course certainly delivered.  Hall was heard to say that the greens were the best she had ever played on in Great Britain!

This was the first time an event of this stature had been played at Bearwood Lakes, a course specially chosen by Justin and Kate Rose and shows the trust they had in great friend and neighbour, owner Gary Holloway, on his club to deliver.

The series itself was the brain child of Liz Young a fellow professional.  Justin Rose heard about Young’s plans to get the ladies playing again following the Coronavirus stoppage and couldn’t wait to help the ladies game, offering £35,000 in prize money for the series.  Not long after, co-sponsors were on-board in the form of Computacenter and American Golf.

There is one more event in the series before the top golfers are invited to the grand final, named Race to the West.

Congratulations to Hall, all the other competitors, the staff and members of Bearwood Lakes and all involved in the remaining events on the series.

In 2019, Bearwood Lakes Golf Club had the ultimate privilege of welcoming golfing legend Gary Player, the Black Knight. During his game over 18 holes with good friends, our proprietor Gary Holloway joined them in a buggy.

Gary Player talked passionately about the track,  his only criticism of the course was the bunker short of the 15th green as he feels 50-60 yard bunker shots are unfair for golfers. His words “bar that bunker he would rate our course 10 out of 10”.   High praise indeed.

We are absolutely honoured to have met Gary Player and very proud that he enjoyed playing our ‘magnificent golf course’ his words on the 18th hole “this is one of the finest courses I have played in many years”.  Being a man of nature he relished playing through the natural topography amongst deer, woodpeckers, swans, red kites, mature woodland, beautiful lakes, no cars, houses, or roads just a serene environment with a pristine track.
